New women and children's hospital in Milton Keynes could be named after Captain Sir Tom Moore

A brand new women and children's hospital in Milton Keynes could be named after Captain Sir Tom Moore, according to national newspaper reports.

The 100-year-old veteran from nearby Marston Moretaine raised more than £32million for the NHS by walking 100 laps of his garden during the first lockdown.

He sadly passed away on Tuesday evening after testing positive for COVID-19 and being admitted to Bedford Hospital for help with his breathing.

And now officials in Downing Street are working on a way to pay tribute to him for years to come.

According to The Sun newspaper, one idea being considered is to name a brand new hospital after the national hero.

The government were elected in December 2019 on a pledge to deliver 40 new hospitals or hospital upgrades across the UK, one of which will be the new Milton Keynes Women's and Children's Hospital - due to open in 2024.

The hospital will be developed on the site of Milton Keynes University Hospital, next to the main building, and will bring together paediatric and obstetrics services under one roof.

It is reported that the new hospital is a "frontrunner" to be given the new name given its nearby location to Captain Sir Tom Moore's home.

No official announcement has yet been made about the name, with the proposals being in their very early stages.
