Council objections to a plan to build a house on a garden in Fishermead have been overruled by a government inspector.
Milton Keynes Council had twice refused Gary Viner’s plan to build a two bedroom dwelling on the garden of an end of terrace property in Perran Avenue so Mr Viner appealed to the Planning Inspectorate.
MK Council planners had said it would have an impact on the design of the cul de sac, harm the living conditions of the residents at number 96 and would not have enough car parking.
Gareth Sibley, an appeal planning officer, visited Fishermead on January 13, and found there was plenty of spare parking, and that the existing property would keep an adequate level of daylight and sunshine.
Mr Sibley’s report concluded: “Given the width of the road and the very limited number of vehicles that would drive down the cul-de-sac, I am satisfied that the additional cars parked on the road would not have an unacceptable impact on highway safety nor would the residual cumulative impacts on the road network be severe.”
Government inspector Chris Preston supported his colleague’s conclusions saying the proposed development would be appropriately designed and would not cause harm to the character and appearance of the street scene.
Mr Peston’s decision was announced on March 4. It overrules the council’s objection and grants Mr Viner permission to build a two bedroom end of terrace dwelling, with parking and landscaping.
