Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt hails 'huge improvement' at MK Hospital despite 'severe pressure' last month

The Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt hailed Milton Keynes Hospital as having had a 'huge improvement' since 2014, despite the Hospital's calls last month for patients to stay away due to its 'severe pressure'.

As part of a visit to the Hospital on Friday, Mr Hunt tweeted: "Huge improvement journey at Milton Keynes Hospital from the worst A&E in 2014 to ‘Good’ Care Quality Commission rating - and staff determined to go even further. Thanks for a great session on patient safety."

However, the claims have been called into question by some campaigners after the Hospital called for patients to stay away last month due to 'severe pressure'.

The crisis at Milton Keynes Hospital lead the headlines nationally, with both the BBC and The Guardian reporting on the situation.

At the start of January, the hospital said they had been seeing higher than usual numbers of ambulances, and had been working well with South Central Ambulance Service to avoid delays in ambulance handovers.
