A golf club in Milton Keynes will be hosting an innovative educational outreach programme that uses golf courses as environmental learning labs.
Woburn Golf Club is set to host the programme on Wednesday, September 25. Staff from Woburn will be welcoming 50 students from Fulbrook School for the First Green event. Students are scheduled to arrive at Woburn Golf Club at 10am and will get a hands-on look at learning activities.
First Green is an innovative education programme that focuses on STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) principles, where students get hands-on learning opportunities in a real-life setting. First Green benefits students in Key Stage 2 onwards by helping them apply their classroom knowledge in an outdoor setting.
Gavin Sowden, the Environment and Health and Safety Officer at Woburn Golf Club said, “We are all excited to be able to showcase our work environment and show the students how the education learnt in school is used in the workplace.”
Students will participate in stations where they will have an opportunity to test water quality, collect soil samples, identify plants, learn about wildlife and water conservation, calculate green speeds, and have a go at hitting golf balls or putting.
