Get out and enjoy Milton Keynes’ green spaces this new year

When the tinsel is down and the last of the seasonal food has been devoured, how better to kickstart the new year, than by heading outside for an adventure this January?

The Parks Trust is hosting a number of events to get you into the great outdoors, including an Inclusive Stroll with Sensory Narration (Jan 13) in Campbell Park.

Designed for all ages and abilities, the short descriptive and introductory walk offers accessible routes and facilities, aims to raise awareness and provide an enjoyable experience while discovering the hidden gems of Milton Keynes’ green spaces.

On January 24, celebrate 50 years of the Woughton Community Orchard, with a special edition of the traditional Wassail ceremony, which is great fun for all members of the family.

Bring whistles, drums, musical instruments or anything noisy to help chase away pesky spirits and wish for a bountiful harvest, as well as good health and wealth for communities! Tuck into tasty treats and enjoy a guided tour of the orchard led by the Mid-Shire Orchard Group.

Keeping the environment spick and span is a great way to get out and take a pride in the surroundings, and a Community Litter Pick (Jan 26) at Canal Broadwalk is a perfect example.

All equipment for a safe litter collection will be provided at the one-hour session, which is being led by Parks Trust staff, who will also take the rubbish away for disposal.

“January is ideal for making memories together, and for kickstarting a healthy year in the great outdoors,” said Julie Dawes, Events and Community Engagement Manager at The Parks Trust, “From magical orchard celebrations to gentle strolls and helpful litter picks, there’s something for every age to enjoy. So wrap up warm, gather family and friends, and join us for adventures that bring people closer to nature in Milton Keynes’ beautiful parks.”
