Funding boost to support vulnerable families in Milton Keynes as part of government scheme

Milton Keynes MPs have welcomed the news that Milton Keynes will receive nearly £1 million as part of the Supporting Families scheme.

Milton Keynes City Council is set to receive £980,500 as part of the Supporting Families programme.

The funds will help keyworkers continue to provide tailored support to the most vulnerable families across the city.

Through the government scheme, vulnerable families are allocated a skilled local keyworker to help them to tackle issues they may be facing across housing insecurity, poor education attainment and substance misuse giving them tailored support to turn their lives around.

This year marks the 10th year of the scheme with ministers confirming £233.5 million for 150 local authorities across England.

Iain Stewart MP said: “The Conservatives have made huge progress improving outcomes for families but sadly there are still families struggling with insecure housing, substance misuse and other challenges.

“That is why I am delighted the Supporting Families Programmes is being expanded into its tenth year so vulnerable families in Milton Keynes South will benefit from a share of £980,500 funding to provide tailored keyworker support to help them turn their lives round.

“Through covid and cost of living challenges, the Conservative Government has targeted support at those who need it most – only the Conservatives can deliver for the most vulnerable in our society.”

Ben Everitt MP said: "A core Conservative value is a focus on families so I'm really encouraged to see the Government continuing to support families who are struggling with substance misuse, insecure housing or a range of other challenges and issues.

“The extension of the Supporting Families Programmes into its tenth year to help vulnerable families in Milton Keynes thanks to a further £980,500 worth of funding will be vital in helping dramatically improve the lives of families thanks to targeted keyworker support."

Rishi Sunak, the Prime Minister, commented: “Since it began ten years ago, Supporting Families has provided vital help to thousands of families right across the country who face real challenges.

“The results are clear for all to see – the scheme has reduced the number of children entering care, cut the number of juvenile custodial sentences, helped many people into employment and reduced costs for the taxpayer.

“That is why we are backing the programme even further, with over £230 million this coming year to fund skilled keyworkers who help vulnerable and disadvantaged families turn their lives around.”
