Free recuperation service to receive support boost from Milton Keynes Council

Milton Keynes Council is to boost its support to adults leaving hospital by extending funding for an in-demand free recuperation service.

Short-term home care is given for free to residents recovering after a stay at Milton Keynes University Hospital (MKUH).

In 2021, more than 156 have been helped to return safely to their homes where they can continue their recovery.

By speeding up the administrative process of people leaving hospital when they’re ready, the Council is also helping to improve the availability of beds and other resources for people being admitted.

The recuperation team has seen an increase in demand over the past 12 months and MK Council is now set to make a decision on 7 December to continue to invest in the service, extending funding by three years.

This service is free of charge to eligible individuals for up to 4 weeks and the Council is able to source specialist support if longer home care is needed.

Council Leader Cllr Pete Marland said: “We know that most people recover best in their own home which makes continued investment in this caring team very important.

"The NHS, including our local hospital, is under enormous pressure because of the pandemic and enabling people to leave when they’re ready has a really positive impact.”

Referrals to the service are made by the team during a person’s stay in hospital.
