Four Seasons with a Twist - First Concert of 2018

Milton Keynes City Orchestra (MKCO) launch into 2018 with a rarely performed concert, on Sunday 14th January, at The Venue theatre in Milton Keynes.

Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and the fiery tango rhythms of Piazzolla’s Four Seasons of Buenos Aires, played together by Italian violinist Francesco D’orazio under the baton of Damian Iorio.

Francesco and Damian will give a fascinating narrative as the music blends the seasons together, a lively way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
MKCO Music Director Damian Iorio commented, “This concert is unusual as it is played without an interval in the style of many shorter contemporary pieces performed currently. Vivaldi and Piazzolla come from different worlds and eras but are brought together by one theme. Vivaldi’s concerto is the most recorded classical work by far and used everywhere from films to phone hold music! Piazzolla, acknowledged as a great composer of tangos and performer on the bandoneón in his native Buenos Aires, paid tribute to Vivaldi with his 4 Seasons. It was originally conceived for his own tango ensemble, but we are performing a version for violin and string orchestra created by the composer Desyatnikov.”

Francesco D’orazio is the first of four top international soloists to join MKCO in 2018, secured by Damian, they bring high quality, live classical music to Milton Keynes alongside the professional skills of the Orchestra. In February we welcome another superb violinist Chloe Hanslip, in March we are honoured to welcome pianist Stephen Hough and in April the wonderful Italian pianist, Gabriele Baldocci, who now lives in Milton Keynes.
