A former fire station in Milton Keynes is being demolished for work to begin on a new care home.

Plans were approved last year (2022), for the demolition of the fire station to make way for a new care home with parking.

The new Porthaven care home will have 75 bedrooms with shared facilities, including care provision.

The home will provide personal, nursing and dementia care for the elderly, with plans "tailored to meet the individual requirements of each resident and provided 24 hours a day by a large team of well-trained and qualified people."

Great Holm Fire Station has been empty since the fire service moved to West Ashland in June 2020.

The move came following the opening of the brand new Blue Light Hub which replaced both Great Holm and Bletchley Fire Station.

The Blue-Light Hub is also home to teams from Thames Valley Police and South Central Ambulance Service, which create opportunities for collaborative working.
