Flood warning issued for Milton Keynes river

Due to heavy rainfall, the government have issued a flood warning for the River Great Ouse, which runs through Milton Keynes to Central Bedfordshire.

Between midnight tonight (27/01) through to tomorrow morning (28/01) there is a forecast of heavy rainfall that is expected to cause river levels to rise at the Newport Pagnell Cemetery river gauge.

Further light rainfall is forecast throughout the day tomorrow, with the possibility of it becoming heavier again in the evening.

In a warning statement, the government advised residents on what they can do to stay safe, as they said: “We expect flooding to affect the River Great Ouse from Newport Pagnell to Roxton

“Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.

“Flooding of property, roads and farmland is possible in the early hours of tomorrow morning and throughout the day.

“Our incident response staff are checking defences and liaising with emergency services.”
