Lakes Estate project shaped by collaboration with local community.
Council tenants have started moving into new Lakes Estate homes, marking a milestone in Milton Keynes City Council’s major regeneration project for the area.
Almost 200 new council homes are being built in the first phase of the construction project, along with a new park and community space. Building began last year and the first six homes at Burnmoor are now complete. Cabinet Member for Housing, Cllr Ed Hume visited the new residents to welcome them into their homes.
Local families waiting for a council home, including council tenants previously living in Serpentine Court, are due to move in over the coming months as soon as properties become available. The new homes are modern, energy-efficient and built to offer local families high-quality housing where they can build a better future.
The Lakes Estate regeneration project has been shaped by years of collaboration with the local community who played a central role in designing the plans approved in 2022. Improvements already delivered include four new play parks and upgrades to shared courtyards.
The project is being funded by the city council with almost £70 million of investment and is supported by a grant of just under £15 million from Homes England.
“I am so pleased for these residents who now have a good new home where they can settle and get on in life,” said Ed Hume. “This is an incredibly proud moment for the whole community and the city council who have worked together for years to make this possible.
“These new homes will make a real difference, providing families with high-quality housing which will help them in so many ways. We look forward to welcoming more families into their new homes as they become available.”
