First accessible swing in MK to open this week

The first wheelchair accessible swing in Milton Keynes is to be officially opened this week thanks to The Henry Allen Trust.

The Henry Allen Trust applied to Tesco's Bags of Help Scheme and Groundworks to have the project of "Park Fun For All" in order to fund the new swing.

Following a successful application, and being short listed down from 5000 applications, The Henry Allen Trust along with two other applications went to a public vote which were held in various local Tesco stores. The Henry Allen Trust were thrilled to be placed first with a £12,000 grant.

Lisa Roberts from the charity said: "Henry's wish was to play and have fun on a swing, but sadly due to being too poorly to leave his Chair he never got his wish. So to have a playground that could be used by everyone including children who are in wheelchairs, who regularly feel isolated and unable to join in with their families during playtime, has now been achieved and we are very excited by this, and have had such positive feedback about this swing already."

"The wheelchair swing can be used by the young and old and we were told about an 80 year old man who cried when he had his first go on a wheelchair swing at another park, as this was something he had never been able to do before."

The swing will be officially opened this Friday 4th November at 11am at Chepstow Park, Off Chepstow Drive, Bletchley, Milton Keynes, MK3 5ND.
