Firefighters were called to Bleak Hall overnight, following reports of a fire at a commercial scrap metal building.
Two units from West Ashland and a crew from Broughton were mobilised, together with an Aerial Appliance from West Ashland.
The fire involved lithium-ion and lead-ion batteries, there was also presence of asbestos within the building structure.
Firefighters isolated the electrical supply at the property on Summerson Road, and deployed an environmental grab pack and onsite interceptors to contain water run-off. Environmental Health was notified due to the hazardous materials involved.
Crews remained on scene for an extended period to carry out damping down operations and monitor for residual hotspots.
