Supporters of a Sexual Assault and Abuse Support Service in the new city will be toasting their toes, sizzling their soles and proving what mind over matter can accomplish at their first fire walk.
The fundraising event in support of Sexual Assault and Abuse Support Service Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes (SAASSBMK) - taking place in Fred Roche Gardens on February 6 - aims to raise vital money for the charity to continue supporting survivors of sexual assault and abuse to heal and take back control.
It is the only accredited provider of specialist support for survivors of sexual abuse for all genders over the age of five in the county and relies on fundraising to deliver their services.
This event also marks the charity’s 30th anniversary celebrations, and promises to be one of the most empowering, rewarding experiences.
The walkers will first be trained by Scott Bell (Twice Guinness World Record holder for the greatest distance walked on fire) before walking across hot coals with a temperature over 1000 degrees Fahrenheit!
“At a time when the government has declared VAWG (Violence Against Women and Girls) a national emergency, organisations like ours are receiving less unrestricted funding to manage everyday operations, which is why events like the Firewalk are so important to us,” said Zoe Bell, Interim CEO of SAASSBMK, “Taking on these challenges, seeing what we can overcome as individuals and the power of mind over matter are really important.
"Yes it’s quite a daunting challenge, but one worth taking on. Yes, I will be there having a go myself, and yes, I am just a little bit scared too.”
The firewalk is open to anyone who wants to have go, but booking is essential.
Registration costs £30 and then you raise as much sponsorship as possible.
