Milton Keynes family who lost all possessions in a house fire could lose their home too

The family who lost everything in a house fire in Heelands are seeking donations from the generous community to help save their much-loved family home.

On Saturday (7/3), an electrical device malfunctioned in a house on Glovers Lane causing a fire to break out. The damage to the house has been incredibly severe, meaning no possessions could be saved.

Unfortunately, the owner of the home was unable to maintain house insurance payments following the sudden loss of his wife and ill health of his own. This means that not only have irreplaceable items owned by the family been destroyed, they are also faced with losing the house altogether if funds cannot be raised to deem the house as safe.

The fire started in a small bedroom when a charger in a plug socket caught fire. It rapidly spread, travelled through the roof and caused the boiler to blow. A family member told MKFM: "My family are in absolute shock at the moment as it wasn’t just our family home it was the last thing we had of our mum's who sadly passed away."

Three people were in the privately-owned family home at the time of the fire and luckily nobody was seriously injured. Two surrounding houses were also damaged, however both of the owners have house insurance.

Fire2She continued: "My sister was torn as she had to rescue the two dogs and parrot and she went back to try and save the cat but the cat sadly passed away. We all had to watch our mum's house burn down with all our mums personal belongings in the roof."

The family has been advised to stay out of the house due to the risk of it collapsing.

As a result of this tragedy, friends of the family have set up an official GoFundMe page to raise much-needed funds. The money donated will go directly to the family to ensure they can keep their home and replace any essential items that have been lost.

So far, the local community has raised nearly £400, however, the current target is £5,000. A friend of the family, who set up the GoFundMe page, said: "Milton Keynes residents are generous, kind and caring and have supported many families through similar tragedies in the past.

"We are aware that other fundraisers have been opened by members of the community, however, we would ask that funds are donated to this campaign only if your intention is for the money raised goes towards the house and the family specifically. Although the kindness of those who have set up alternative campaigns is very much appreciated, this should be considered the official fundraiser for this cause as it will be monitored by the family themselves alongside nominated close friends.

"Please give as much or as little as you can afford. Every penny will make a difference to the family at this terrible time."

The family would like to thank Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service, Thames Valley Police and The Red Cross for the support.
