Failure to remove abandoned car in Central Milton Keynes costs man almost £1300

A man has been found guilty of abandoning a vehicle in Central Milton Keynes and ordered to pay fines totalling £1265 following an investigation by MK Council’s Environmental Crime Unit.

Pio Pijuan Nguema had abandoned a BMW, which had significant accident damage, no MOT or road tax, outside Saxon Court in Milton Keynes.

Nguema ignored a notice and letter from MKC’s Environmental Crime Unit asking for the car to be moved, at which point Council officers issued a £200 Fixed Penalty Notice – which was also ignored.

Nguema failed to pay the £200 Fixed Penalty Notice and was ordered to attend Court on 14 August, where he was convicted of abandoning the vehicle under S.2(1)(a) Refuse Disposal (Amenity) Act 1978 and ordered to pay fines and charges totalling £1265.

Councillor Emily Darlington, Cabinet Member for the Public Realm said: “A badly damaged and dangerous vehicle is now off MK’s roads thanks to Environmental Crime Officers at MK Council.

“It’s not okay to abandon a vehicle and expect someone else to clean up after you. I hope the bills this man incurred sends a strong message to anyone else thinking of doing the same.”
