Extra support for vulnerable families in MK thanks to Getaway Foundation

Milton Keynes Council has been able to help more than 30 vulnerable families affected by coronavirus thanks to a generous donation from MK based charity, The Getaway Foundation.

The Foundation has donated £12,500 which the Council’s Family Assessment and Support Team is using to buy family essentials such as kitchen appliances, children’s toys and baby food, as well as helping with household bills.

The team works with each family on what specific items and support they require and arranges delivery, in some cases making deliveries themselves while following social distancing.

Councillor Zoe Nolan, Cabinet Member for Children and Families, said: “This generous support from The Getaway Foundation has made an immediate difference for some of our most vulnerable families, helping with essential supplies and items for young children.  I know our social care and FAST workers have taken huge pleasure from making these deliveries and the donation has provided a welcome boost to our local efforts.”

Peter Tebbutt, CEO of The Getaway Foundation, said: “We’ve been working with the fantastic Children’s Services team in Milton Keynes to help families that are really struggling with the social and economic impact of the recent lockdown.  To date, we’ve provided over 30 grants to support families and children in Milton Keynes.  We’re pleased we can contribute in a positive way and help to put smiles on families’ faces.”

The Getaway Foundation was founded in January 2020 to benefit families in poverty and create positive memories through holidays. With the massive impact of Covid-19, the charity has adapted its mission to support families impacted by the Coronavirus.
