EXCLUSIVE: Mass vaccination centre in Milton Keynes expected to open next week

A new mass coronavirus vaccination centre is expected to open in Central Milton Keynes next week.

The centre, located at Saxon Court in the City Centre, has been in planning for a number of weeks and will be able to deliver 2,000 vaccinations per day.

Authorities are remaining tight-lipped on when the centre will open, but MKFM understands it will be in the early part of next week.

Signage has now appeared at the centre, including a poster stating that 'MK Council and the NHS are working together for local residents'.

Sources have told MKFM that a small number of vaccinations have already taken place at the site in order to test the set-up in place.

Work has also been carried out on the exterior of the site including the creation of drop off and pick up points and ramp access for wheelchair users.

Over 120,000 doses of vaccine have already been administered in Bedfordshire and Milton Keynes so far, according to the latest NHS England data.

85% of people over the age of 80, 82.7% of people aged 75 to 79 and 38.6% of people aged 70 to 74 in our area have been given at least a first dose.

MKFM understands local businesses have also been approached to assist with finding volunteers for the site to help with marshaling and parking.
