'Everything must go': Poundstretcher store in Milton Keynes set to close

One of the two Poundstretcher stores in Milton Keynes will be permanently closing, MKFM can reveal.

Poundstretcher at the Westcroft Retail Park is preparing to permanently close its doors with sources claiming that it could close in as little as four weeks*.

The reasoning behind the store's closure is unknown, with some people suggesting it could be down to an increase in rent - although this is just speculation.

It was previously reported in July 2020 that the discount chain was struggling financially and was to close nearly half of its UK stores, resulting in 9,000 job losses, as part of a rescue restructuring process.

It is not known whether this closure is part of the restructuring process, but it will result in just one Poundstretcher being open in Milton Keynes - a store along Queensway in Bletchley.

Stock at the Westcroft store is currently being sold off in a closing down sale, giving residents 20% off all items.

People have since shared their disappointment at the bargain store's closure, which has been open for over a decade.

One resident said: "I will really miss Poundstretcher, I like shopping in there. I hope it will be turned into another useful shop, maybe an independent one too."

Poundstretcher did not respond to MKFM's request for comment.

    * The closing date for Poundstretcher at the Westcroft Retail Park has not been confirmed.
