European City of Sport activity packs sent to families in Milton Keynes

MK Council has distributed hundreds of European City of Sport physical activity equipment packs to families in Milton Keynes.

The packs include items like foam balls, bean bags, hula hoops, paddle bats and a frisbee, along with activity cards to help children and families find easy and convenient ways to be physically active at home, as well as in outdoor spaces.

Council colleagues are delivering the packs through local Children and Family Centres to four areas in Milton Keynes.

More than 400 physical activity packs have already been distributed by MKC with support from the Leap, the social enterprise and activity partnership for Milton Keynes and Buckinghamshire.

Cllr Carole Baume, Cabinet Member for Economy and Culture, said: “One of the main aims of the European City of Sport programme is to create stronger connections between partners; to engage new audiences, and together create a positive impact on people's lives, through physical activity.

“The Boredom Busters Activity Pack project is a shining example of how organisations coming together to support one another can make positive things happen quickly, efficiently and accurately.  I’d like to thank council colleagues, Leap and MK College for their efforts.”

Local clubs, organisations and individuals across Milton Keynes are continuing to share their sporting success on social media using the #MK20in20 tag, and on the Active MK page.

Earlier this year, MKC launched the #MK20in20 ‘at home’ campaign to maintain local sporting momentum despite the restrictions faced by the COVID-19 pandemic.  This has seen many more examples of groups, businesses, school pupils and individuals exercising at home - in living rooms, gardens, garages and local parks

Mark Stokes, Children and Young People Development Manager at Leap, said: “We’re delighted to be working with a number of partners to make this project possible.  We hope these packs will go some way to helping the physical and mental health of young people who have been affected by this pandemic.”
