Energy efficiency upgrades help Milton Keynes City Council tenants cut bills

Many council tenants in Milton Keynes are starting to see their energy bills go down thanks to a major programme of energy efficiency upgrades being delivered by Milton Keynes City Council.

Around 800 council homes across the city have been improved so far, with many being fitted with external insulation, new windows and doors built to industry-leading standards. Roofs are also being replaced with high-performance insulation as part of a multi-million-pound project to improve the energy performance of more than 1,500 council homes.

The first residents to receive the improvements have reported positive changes, including warmer homes and lower energy use, and based on current energy prices, tenants could save up to £400 a year on their bills, while enjoying homes that stay warmer in winter and cooler in summer.

Cabinet Member for Housing, Councillor Ed Hume recently visited Daren, one of the tenants already benefitting from the upgrades, at his home in Bradville.

“It was great to visit Daren and see how happy he is with the work. His home will be nice and toasty for Christmas and he’s already noticing the difference.

"We want as many tenants as possible to benefit from these improvements. It’s a fantastic way to make your home more comfortable and potentially reduce your bills," Cllr Hume added.

The city council is encouraging tenants to allow contractors access to their homes so they can benefit from improved comfort lower energy costs and a fresh-looking home. The work is ongoing and more homes will be upgraded in the coming months.
