Police receive reports about elderly man who 'regularly' walks down Milton Keynes' country roads in pitch black

Police have received 'numerous reports' about an elderly man who 'regularly' walks down winding country roads in the pitch black.

Residents have shared their concerns about the safety of the man, who does not wear high visibility clothing, as visibility is poor on the roads.

Officers from Thames Valley Police say that cars have "narrowly avoided hitting him".

It has not been confirmed exactly where the man regularly walks, but some locals think it is from Newport Pagnell to North Crawley.

One person said: "He has done it for years, I used to pick him up and take him back home everytime I saw him which was a good few times a week."

The man has been spoken to by officers; he told them that he has been walking this route for his whole life.

He was issued a high-visibility jacket which he has since agreed to wear on future trips.

Police have since stressed the importance of wearing potentially life-saving bright clothing.

A spokesperson for the local police force said: "If you are out walking, cycling or riding a horse, make sure you wear some form of high-visibility clothing to reduce the risk of accidents and improve safety overall.

"When you wear reflective gear, you avoid appearing 'invisible' to drivers. Also if it is possible, make sure you face oncoming traffic so that drivers can see you and you can see them coming."
