DPD driver has delivery van taken away after being caught with no seatbelt and illegal tyres

    A DPD delivery driver was stopped by the Thames Valley Roads Policing Unit yesterday (21/7).

    The delivery driver was driving in Reading when police caught them without their seatbelt on.

    After carrying out further vehicle checks, police found the driver's tyres were in 'an illegal and unsafe condition'.

    Milton Keynes motorists are now being warned to check their tyres regularly.

    In the UK, it is law that tyre depth must be at least 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tyre.

    According to the RAC, most recommend minimum tread depth of 3mm for tyre replacement. The difference in wet braking distance between a tyre worn to 3mm and one worn to 1.6mm can be as much as 44%. 

    As a result of the illegal tyres, the driver's van was taken away until necessary repairs are carried out.

    Police also say the driver was also reported for both offences.

    Drivers are also being warned to now the consequences of driving with illegal or bald tyres. Insurance claims could be invalidated if a motorists tyres are deemed unsafe.

    There is also risks of hefty fines.
