Domino's pizza stores in Milton Keynes could soon be offering drive-thru collection to customers

Domino's pizza stores in Milton Keynes are expected to offer a drive-thru-style collection to customers later on this year.

The pizza chain, which has several outlets across Milton Keynes, hopes to have 450 sites across the UK offering in-car collections by the end of June.

This means that staff will be able to deliver pizza to customers' vehicles by the time lockdown restrictions are due to end.

Dominic Paul, Chief Executive of Domino's, explains: “We’re doing it in stores that have a car park or are very near a car park. You order on the app. You drive to the store and then someone will deliver the pizza to your car.”

Domino's is hoping that this will boost sales as the pandemic has seen collections drop drastically, with it being reported that collection levels are currently at 60% compared to 2019.

The chain also plans to open 200 stores in the "medium-term" and is looking to "reset" its fractious relationship with franchisees.

It said it hoped the "very successful" existing 70 franchisees would, along with others, take advantage of its plans for more stores following a bitter row going back years over strategy that has placed its expansion at risk.

The company said it had spent £9m over the year to ensure its franchisees could operate safely during the pandemic, with 94.3% of delivery sales made online.

It said its digital capabilities, including a new app due to roll out within months, was a crucial part of its strategy.

Dominic Paul told investors: "We have maintained an open dialogue with our franchisees throughout the development of this plan and, while we do not have an agreement yet, we have made an attractive offer to them which we believe will deliver powerful benefits to both them and the group.

"As the economy begins to reopen, we have invested in our capabilities to enable us to capitalise on the substantial opportunities ahead.

"I am confident that we can achieve our vision of being the UK and Ireland's favourite food delivery and collection brand, and deliver great results for our colleagues, our customers, our shareholders and our franchisees."
