Director of Milton Keynes shopping centre forced to remind people of the law surrounding face coverings

The Director of centre:mk yesterday (7/9) shared a reminder on the law surrounding face coverings and stressed their 'zero tolerance' approach to abuse.

It was shared on the centre:mk's Facebook page with Kevin Duffy, Centre Director, stressing that he "never thought [he] would see the day to have to post a message like this".

The use of face coverings in various indoor public places, including shopping centres, is now the law. And, organisations that require this should enforce it law by reminding people to wear them (if they are not exempt) and, if rejected, potentially asking them to leave.

Milton Keynes' main shopping centre, the centre:mk, has established clear rules and signage with regards to one way systems, social distancing, and the requirement of face coverings.

However, many residents have reported that they still see people not wearing face coverings or wearing them in the wrong way.

Kevin Duffy continued: "It is the law to wear a face covering at all times in the shopping centre building, with exemptions for those with a health or disability reason and children under 11 years old. We ask those who are exempt to collect a Sunflower Lanyard from our Guest Services Lounge to highlight to our team and retailers at the centre your exemption. If you are not exempt you must wear a face covering in all areas of the shopping centre, including walking on the malls between shops."

He also highlighted how all staff are part of the "family" and should be able to work without suffering "physical or verbal abuse", adding: "there is a zero tolerance policy approach to anyone abusing or assaulting any of our team at centre:mk and anyone doing this will be prosecuted."

The Centre Director concluded his message by thanking those who are abiding by the law and following the safety measures.
