Denbigh students team up with the Royal Shakespeare Company to produce ‘Matilda the Musical’

Directors and choreographers from the RSC worked with staff and students to help them develop the production, which played to sell out audiences of family, friends and the local community.

Denbigh was given special licence by the RSC to perform this version of Matilda, which has been produced especially for schools through its ‘Champion Schools’ Project.

Students from all year groups took part in the truly ensemble performance where every performer was on the stage for the whole production.  Many actors played multiple characters throughout and the cast created all the locations themselves.

Andy Squires, Denbigh Headteacher says, ‘We are so fortunate to have been given the opportunity to stage this musical which has such a special place in people’s hearts. The support we received from the Royal Shakespeare Company has been inspirational for students and staff and helped us to produce a wonderful show. I am so proud of our cast of ‘revolting children’, many of whom had never performed in front of an audience before.
