Big switch-on shines a light on local charity.
Organisers of a well-known Christmas landmark have thanked local people for their support during their annual light switch-on.
Hundreds of residents and visitors arrived outside the ‘Christmas House’ in Lime Street, Olney, for the switch on at the start of the festive period, and have continued to view the Yuletide display and leave donations.
The Christmas House is raising money for Al's Pals, the Milton Keynes charity supporting cancer patients and their families in MK hospital, at home and in the community, across the city and in Northamptonshire.
It’s the only emotional support service offered to cancer patients and families at home regardless of diagnosis and prognosis.
“We would like to thank everyone who has donated to this wonderful charity,” said a spokesman for the Christmas House. “However, if you missed the switch on there’s still plenty of time for you and family members to come along to see the lights and donate if you wish.”
The charity also provides a support group in conjunction with Olney Town Council at the local Olney Centre on the second Tuesday of each month, between 10am and 12pm. Anyone is welcome to visit and chat to volunteers Hazel Edwards and Dawn Bridge.
Suzanne Brown, chief executive and founder of Al’s Pals visited the House. The charity that she set up in her Dad’s name, is celebrating its fifth anniversary this year.
