Crime Commissioner meets business owners in Milton Keynes to discuss concerns

Thames Valley Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Barber joined the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor of Woburn Sands for a walkabout in the town centre last week.

Engaging with businesses, they discussed issues including shoplifting, anti-social behaviour, traffic management, alleged drug dealing and abuse, community safety and police visibility.

Matthew, Councillor David Hopkins and Councillor Keith Temple spoke with shopkeepers about their experiences and heard their concerns around shop theft and associated crime.

As part of the local Safer Woburn Sands campaign, the town centre will see higher-visibility patrols and targeted operations, with a focus on hotspot areas.

Police will also be holding more frequent local ‘Have Your say’ community surgeries and engagement opportunities.

“I’ve heard concerns about crime and anti-social behaviour on the town centre high street in particular, and we all want to make sure Woburn Sands remains a safe and comfortable place for people to live, shop and work in,” said Cllr Hopkins.

“We are listening, and by working in partnership with partner organisations, we will focus on tackling the issues that matter to local people and achieve more for them”.

“What is clear from the visit is that the town council and the Thames Valley Police and Crime Commissioner are on the same page and will both support where we can achieve the most in our shared aim to enhance a visible policing presence across the town.”

The next Have Your Say session is scheduled for October 16 at the Wavendon Hub off Dankworth Way, at 7pm.
