Councillors secure grants to help people in Milton Keynes celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

Councillors have secured £20,000 in grants for community groups and parish councils to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.

As part of MK Council’s budget, the Conservatives proposed adding £20,000 to celebrate the unprecedented anniversary and allow for events and initiatives to take place during the four-day bank holiday weekend from Thursday 2nd June to Sunday 5th June.

Communities will be invited to celebrate the Queen’s jubilee through a range of activities, which might involve parties on public land, street parties and other gathering.

More information will be made available soon about how community groups and parish councils can apply for the fund.

Cllr Alex Walker, Leader of the Conservative Group, said: “This will be a historic moment and we know that communities will want to come together to celebrate it in style.

"It will be a wonderful opportunity to put the last few difficult years in the rear-view, bring communities together, celebrate our Queen and her service, all while having a great time.”
