Councillor calls for waste amnesty schemes to be delivered across Milton Keynes

Councillor Alex Walker with Stantonbury Parish Council.

Stantonbury Parish Council recently launched its first ever waste amnesty scheme in Bradville.

Stantonbury Councillor Alex Walker has called on MK Council to support Parishes in delivering waste amnesty schemes across the rest of Milton Keynes after receiving positive responses from residents.

Stantonbury Parish Council has been providing skips for residents to dispose of their bulky waste and are the first Parish Council to get such a scheme off the ground.

Fly-tipping report rates currently sit at around 500 reports on average every month.

This is in line with national trends, as fly-tipping is up by over 300% nationally.

At a meeting of Full Council, Councillor Alex Walker praised Stantonbury for leading the way. Councillor Alex Walker said:  “I’m pleased to have secured a commitment from the Cabinet that they will look at providing support to get these schemes off the ground.

“I’m proud of Stantonbury Parish for leading the way and showing how a waste amnesty can be done successfully. I know other areas which suffer with fly-tipping hot spots are looking at introducing the same scheme.

“This together with removing the tip booking system and increasing enforcement would really drag fly-tipping rates down.”
