Council picks up top planning prize

MK Council has picked up two prestigious planning prizes in recognition for Plan:MK, the council’s Local Plan, at the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) awards.

Plan:MK is the council’s blueprint for development of MK leading up to 2031. MK Council was awarded the prize for Excellence in Plan Making Practice and the top planning award for the South East.

MK Council was specifically commended for its partnership working with public and private sector organisations, and engaging with local people.

Plan:MK sets out a positive vision to allocate land for new homes and other development across MK with a framework to address housing needs, economic growth and community infrastructure. It also sets out vision for MK as a green spacious place with a thriving economy and new facilities, including a state-of-the-art university in CMK.

This prize means that Plan:MK has now been shortlisted for the national RTPI awards for planning excellence which is set to take place in April 2020.

Cabinet member for Planning at MKC, Councillor Martin Gowans said: “This award is a testament to Plan:MK which sets out a plan for everyone in MK to have a decent home, good job and a long and healthy life.

“Well done to council colleagues and partners for their work and I look forward to the national awards later this year.”
