Council Leader: Waste Collection Delays are 'unacceptable'

The Leader of Milton Keynes Council, Cllr Peter Marland, has said that delays to the collection of waste and recycling in our city are 'unacceptable' and has commissioned an investigation.

His statement comes after MKFM reported yesterday that hundreds of residents had been left without a bin collection during peak rubbish season.

Mr Marland told MKFM: "The delays to waste collection over the Christmas period have been unacceptable. I have asked that by noon tomorrow a plan to clear the backlog is established. I have also commissioned an investigation to find out what has gone wrong and ensure it doesn’t happen again. I want to apologise to residents who haven’t had a collection and the issues this has caused, and I am very clear I expect it to be fixed as quickly as possible without excuse."

Residents in Woburn Sands, Wavendon, Old Farm Park, Browns Wood, Walton Park, Walton Hall, Bow Brickhill, Shenley Brook End, Peartree Bridge, Tattenhoe, Tattenhoe Park, Eaglestone, Wavendone Gate, Furzton, Monkston and Coffee Hall are amongst those who have been affected by a delayed collection.

One Tattenhoe resident told MKFM: "There is no excuse for the council not updating their website. Everyone can understand bad weather and Christmas but if the collection isn't going to happen, they should tell us and we won't put it out."
