Council issues closure order against property in Central Milton Keynes

MK Council has secured a three month partial closure order on one of its properties in CMK, following frequent complaints of crime and anti-social behaviour.

Residents had reported a number of issues involving the property located in North Ninth Street, including drug dealing, threats of violence against neighbours and criminal damage.

Following an investigation, MKC and Thames Valley Police decided a closure order was the most appropriate course of action.

The closure order was made at Milton Keynes Magistrates Court yesterday (6/8) under the ASB, Crime and Policing Act 2014 legislation.

The closure power is a fast, flexible power that can be used to protect victims and communities by quickly closing premises that are causing nuisance or disorder.

Breaching a Closure Order is a criminal offence, carrying a penalty of either imprisonment for a period of up to six months or an unlimited fine, or both.

Anyone affected by this type of behaviour is encouraged to report it to the police by calling 101 or to Milton Keynes Council on 01908 25 2937.
