Specialist services for hundreds of vulnerable adults, young people, and children with visual and hearing impairments will continue to receive funding from Milton Keynes Council.
The Council has commissioned the Birmingham Institute for the Deaf (BID) to provide free advice and information, assessments, eye and hearing clinics and training for local people since 2013.
Their local base is the Sensory Advice Resource Centre (SARC) on Silbury Boulevard.
The essential funding has now been extended by two years.
Council Leader Cllr Pete Marland said: “We know from residents that this range of services is a lifeline for people with visual and hearing impairments. The team has been very adaptable during the pandemic, continuing to help people throughout lockdowns. Our social work teams have worked closely with the BID to ensure that anyone who needs this support has access at the earliest opportunity.”
Despite the challenges, BID managed to run training and equipment support sessions during the pandemic.
Members of the public, including carers, can drop in to the SARC on Silbury Boulevard to access support.
Referrals to the service can also be made by social workers.
MK residents who meets the eligibility requirements can use the service free of charge.
