Could John Lewis close its Milton Keynes store?

Up to eight John Lewis stores could be closed permanently according to chairwoman Dame Sharon White.

While the exact number and locations are yet to be decided, many are concerned that John Lewis in Milton Keynes could be set to close permanently.

After opening in 1979, John Lewis has been a consistent in Centre:MK for 42 years and is currently closed due to national lockdown restrictions as a non-essential retailer.

However, John Lewis' are feeling the financial squeeze that business across the retail sector has been experiencing due to the pandemic.

Currently, Dame Sharon White has said the department store chain is negotiating with all its landlords in the hope to save some stores from the cut.

In July last year, John Lewis announced the closure of eight stores leading to 1,300 job losses.

They are also currently cutting 1,500 jobs at their London head office.

Milton Keynes has already seen the closure of big names such as; Topshop/Topman and Debenhams in the last few months, so many hope that John Lewis isn't added to that list.
