Controversial plan to build 6-bed HMO in quiet Milton Keynes estate has been withdrawn after public outcry

A controversial plan to convert a family home into a 6-bed HMO has been withdrawn following public outcry and a large-scale petition.

A Peterborough-based property developer, called DM & CD Colman Property Management Ltd, had lodged a planning application with Milton Keynes Council about the conversion of 7 Clitheroe Croft in Kingsmead.

The developers wanted to convert the detached family home into a six-bedroom 'House in Multiple Occupation', or HMO, which would see six separate households live within the single property.

The application, which was submitted in February of this year, caused upset among local residents who felt strongly about stopping the application from being granted.

MKFM spoke to Clitheroe Croft residents last month and raised concerns in an article that shed further light on the developer's controversial plans.

Locals were vocal about the single-width residential street arguably not being suitable for the development, which households claimed could result in emergency vehicles being unable to pass through.

Residents of Clitheroe Croft put their foot down by starting a petition, and at the time of writing, it has had 248 signatures.

James Lancaster, Councillor for Tattenhoe Ward, also objected to the plans.

The planning application had received multiple formal objections, and following this, the developer withdrew its application.

One local, who actively campaigned against the conversion, hailed the withdrawal as "great news".

He added: "This shows the power of coming together, working as a community, being organised and working with experts and councillors to make the best case."
