Construction of £3.5m sports complex in Milton Keynes set to begin

Milton Keynes Council has kicked off construction on a new £3.5m sports complex to serve new developments near Wavendon and the east of Milton Keynes.

Wavendon Heights Playing Fields will include a community pavilion with a multi-purpose hall, and team changing rooms and café, as well as five new football pitches constructed to Sport England standards.

The council has raised funding for the project through money collected from the developers who are building housing in the ‘Strategic Land Allocation’ to the east of MK, which includes Glebe Farm, Eagle Farm, Elmswell Gate and Wavendon Green.

Once built, MK’s newest sports and leisure community asset will be managed and maintained by Wavendon Parish Council and will be the future home ground of Woburn and Wavendon Lions Football Club, though local people and groups will also be welcome to use the facilities including for social events.

Cllr Jane Carr, MK Council Cabinet Member for Leisure and Community Assets, said: “This project has been two years in the making and I’m delighted to see the first construction vehicles now on site.  We’re grateful to everybody who’s been involved in helping to shape and develop the proposals.

“Wavendon Heights Playing Fields and community pavilion will be a vital new asset for local people and groups, providing them with more opportunities for sport and activity as well as being a useful venue for social events.”

Mayor of Milton Keynes, Mohammed Khan joined Council staff to formally signal the beginning of construction, with the project set to be complete by September 2022.
