Concert played underneath the stars at IF: Milton Keynes International Festival

The biennial IF: Milton Keynes International Festival is back from 18 to 27 July.

The BBC New Generation Baroque Ensemble Augelletti plays a concert of music inspired by stars, angels and planets under Luke Jerram’s monumental sculpture of the planet Mars at IF: Milton Keynes International Festival on Friday 25 July

With an international programme of large-scale outdoor spectaculars, installations, performance, theatre, poetry, dance, circus, live music, family-friendly shows, comedy and cabaret.

A major Festival project is Luke Jerram’s third momentous planetary sculpture Mars, featuring NASA imagery of the Martian surface and a special soundscape including recordings from the US missions to Mars.

Sited for the first Festival weekend at The Open University campus, Mars then orbits for the final week to the Church of Christ the Cornerstone where Ensemble Augelletti will play a special concert, directly beneath the red planet, on Friday 25 July.

The renowned early music group will celebrate some extraordinary stories of 17th and 18th century astronomers with The Morning Star, a concert of music inspired by stars, angels and planets. The cosmos-inspired programme includes music by Corelli, Schmelzer and Uccellini and settings of the 1597 hymn  How Beautifully Shines The Morning Star.

Founded in 2019, Ensemble Augelletti is the current New Generation Baroque Ensemble in partnership with BBC Radio 3, the National Centre for Early Music and the Royal College of Music.
