Tallinn-founded company Starship Technologies has raised $100 million in the last 30 days.

Here in Milton Keynes, we have become so used to seeing the beloved-autonomous delivery robots around town, that we forget they're not everybody's normal.

Today, Starship Technologies, the company behind our popular robots, has announced that they have raised $100 million in the last 30 days to expand its offerings in Europe and the U.S.

Following a successful launch in Milton Keynes in the past few years, the company has received investment from around the world.

The funding received will allow the company to launch in new cities in North America and Europe.

Shinichi Nikkuni, managing partner of NordicNinja VC, one of the big investors, told Tech Eu: “Everyone is talking about how to fix the issues with last-mile delivery. Starship’s autonomous driving technology for sidewalk delivery will lead to accumulating more and more data and experiences through much wider commercial operations”.

The company also announced that in light of the events currently in Ukraine, some of the funding is going to support people through the Red Cross.

A spokesperson for Starship Technologies wrote on Facebook: "We have some news today. It’s progress for our company, which is why it’s hard for us to share at this time in light of what we’re seeing in Ukraine. In fact, this news pales into insignificance compared to what many people are experiencing right now.

"We raised a new round of funding to help accelerate our growth to tens of new cities and campuses to ensure sustainable, low cost and convenient autonomous delivery is available to more communities globally.

"Some of this funding is immediately going to support people by donating directly to the Red Cross in Ukraine. We’ve also put charity information in our app across our 30+ service areas, so our customers can also donate quickly and easily, directly.

"We want to use this news as an opportunity to thank our Starship teams around the world. Our colleagues, from over 30 nationalities, have done an incredible job to get us to where we are today, and this would not have been possible without them."
