Community joins Milton Keynes care home for Christmas light switch-on event

Residents and team members at Castlemead Court Care Home in Newport Pagnell have been getting in the festive spirit this season and helping to spread Christmas cheer in their local community.

As a care home that has close links with the community, this year, they wanted to host their own switch-on event and invite local people to join them.

During the build up to their light switch-on event residents worked hard to make colourful decorations during their arts and crafts sessions, whilst team members decorated the outside of the care home and contacted people in local community to invite them to their Christmas spectacular.

The team also invited Justin Dealy from Three Countries Radio to attend. On the day of the Christmas light switch on, residents and team members were all excited to see their home lit up with decorations.

Family members, friends and members of the local community turned up in their numbers to celebrate and mark the start of the festive season in style.

In amongst the guests was a gentleman called David, who put on his Santa suit and drove his decorated Harley Davidson motorbike to raise some smiles. His arrival gathered lots of attention, especially amongst the children who had never seen Santa on a bike before! He happily posed for pictures with residents, team members and guests in attendance which raised many smiles.

It was then time for the countdown to start, which everyone joined in with. The lights then came on, revealing a colourful display of decorations and lights on the building and on the front lawns.

It was a spectacular show that received many compliments from the people in attendance.

It was then time for a Christmas singalong with Santa, before snacks and drinks were served as people socialised.

Residents and team members at Castlemead Court agreed it was a lovely way to start the festive celebrations and couldn’t believe how many people turned up. Feeling the support from their community raised smiles amongst the team and they hope their Christmas display continues to spread festive cheer!
