City MPs welcome employment figures

Both Milton Keynes MP’s have welcomed the news that employment across the UK has reached its highest rate since records began.

Mark Lancaster for MK North and Iain Stewart for MK South were both pleased that unemployment remains at its lowest level for 11 years, down over 900,000 since 2010.

In Milton Keynes, the number of people claiming the key out of work benefits has fallen by 5,194, a 70% drop since 2010.

“This is great news for our country and our community, said Mark Lancaster.  The number of people in MK relying on out of work benefits has fallen by 70% since 2010, while the employment level nationwide has hit a record high.

It shows that we are continuing to create a strong economy and these positive figures demonstrate that there are now more jobs available than there are people receiving benefits.”

Iain Stewart commented “The manner in which our local economy strengthens is a testament to Milton Keynes being the fastest growing city in the UK, thereby providing many and diverse employment opportunities to those who want to work. This month’s employment figures are clear evidence of this.”
