City councillor funds hire of local venue for Milton Keynes Hospital’s festive fundraiser

A local Lib Dem councillor has spent a proportion of her ward grant on hiring a local venue for Milton Keynes Hospital Charity’s festive fundraiser.

Councillor Marie Bradburn, who represents Bradwell has used a portion of her ward grant to hire a local venue for Milton Keynes Hospital Charity’s Christmas Quiz Night.

The festive quiz night, which is taking place tonight, has been organised in aid of Milton Keynes Hospital Charity’s Radiotherapy Wellbeing Hub Appeal.

The charity are raising £500,000 for a wellbeing facility on the site of the new radiotherapy centre, which will offer a safe and peaceful haven for anyone undergoing cancer treatment in Milton Keynes.

The radiotherapy unit is planned to open next year, which means patients across the city who currently have to travel as far as Oxford (often a three hour round trip) for treatment could receive essential treatment on their doorstep.

The City Council has been working closely with the Milton Keynes University Hospital Foundation Trust for several years, and in January, the City Council provided £5.7m for the new radiotherapy unit.

Councillor Marie Bradburn, said: “This is such an important appeal that will make a huge difference to local people’s lives, it will help patients undergoing cancer treatment and their families access much needed wellbeing support closer to home. I am pleased the contribution has helped the charity to fundraise for their Wellbeing Hub Appeal, and I’m looking forward to more local fundraising events in the future.”

Vanessa Holmes, Associate Director, Charity and Fundraising at Milton Keynes Hospital, added: “We are so grateful for Marie’s support with our Christmas Quiz Night, it couldn’t have happened without her! The team are all really looking forward to tonight, and I’d like to encourage more quiz teams to join us for a night of festive fun. We are determined to raise the funds needed for the new Wellbeing Hub, but we can’t do this alone, I would ask anyone interested in supporting us to get in touch.”

The Christmas Quiz Night is taking place on Friday 15 December from 7.30pm in Bradwell Village Memorial Hall.

For any local quiz whizzes who fancy testing their general knowledge, teams of up to six can compete to win, and tickets can be purchased for £10, to find out more, click here.
