Marathon walk to every London football ground starts at MK Dons.
An MK dad has set off today on a 130-mile walk for charity to raise funds for the organisation that has helped him and his family through a cancer hell.
In January this year, MKFM told how devastated Andrew Green was planning a mammoth walk to London from Milton Keynes, taking in every one of the capital’s football clubs, plus Wembley.
He left Stadium MK this morning to start his fund-raising journey, but not before he had a quick look at the club’s famous pitch.
Andrew’s son Alexander has twice been diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare cancer of the muscle tissue. The brave boy has undergone chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery including skin grafts to the side of his face.
During Alexander’s recovery Andrew’s family were supported by the charity Young Lives vs Cancer. It’s that organisation that Andrew wants to raise funds for with his four-day walk and has set himself a target of £10,000.
“It’s 20 grounds,” says Andrew. “Starting at MK Dons and finishing at Tottenham, the route works out about 26 miles a day to get to the 132 miles over four days.”
