Changes to Test and Trace app means everybody will have to 'check in' when heading out in Milton Keynes

Changes have been made to the NHS Test and Trace app, meaning that everybody within a group will have to check in when visiting a venue from next week.

From April 12th, when non-essential retail, outdoor hospitality, and thousands of other businesses in Milton Keynes reopen, every adult will have to provide their details.

The NHS' contact tracing service previously allowed for one person from a group to provide their details when attending a venue, for example, a pub, but this has now changed.

New regulations state that everybody in the group must check in, either by scanning an NHS QR code poster on the app or by providing their contact details directly to the venue.

If a user has a positive coronavirus test result, they will be required to share their venue history privately on the app.

This will mean a venue will be alerted faster and local outbreaks will be able to be contained more easily.

And if somebody has been at a venue on the same day as someone who has since tested positive, they may receive an alert - either through the app or by phone - telling them to book a test regardless of whether they are showing symptoms or not.

When businesses reopen next week, they will be required to display new QR posters which the Government says are easier to read and use.

And tomorrow, a new campaign will be launched encouraging everybody to take part in twice-weekly lateral flow testing.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said: "As we continue to make good progress on our vaccine programme and with our roadmap to cautiously easing restrictions underway, regular rapid testing is even more important to make sure those efforts are not wasted.

"That's why we're now rolling out free rapid tests to everyone across England - helping us to stop outbreaks in their tracks, so we can get back to seeing the people we love and doing the things we enjoy."
