Captain Sir Tom Moore receives guard of honour as his ashes laid to rest in family grave

After receiving a guard of honour, Captain Sir Tom Moore's ashes have been buried in a family grave in his hometown of Keighley.

The legendary Second World War veteran has been laid to rest in West Yorkshire with a guard of honour consisting of school children and many organisations close to his heart.

They were joined by Captain Sir Tom Moore's two daughters, Hannah Ingram-Moore and Lucy Teixeira, alongside two of his grandchildren and his sons-in-law.

A short ceremony was conducted by the Keighley Town Chaplain, the Reverend Dr Jonathan Pritchard, who noted it was an "immense privilege" to undertake the service.

It is also estimated that there were around 50 representatives present from the NHS, Scouts, Guides and the Royal British Legion.

At his request, his grave was marked with the words "I told you I was old" which were engraved on the 7th high memorial stone. He was buried with his parents and grandparents.

Captain Sir Tom Moore gained fame earlier this year as he set out to raise money for the NHS by doing 100 laps of his garden to mark his 100th birthday. The initial goal was to raise £1,000 but by the time the fundraiser ended, the total amount raised was £30 million.

He was later knighted by the Queen at Windsor Castle for his fundraising efforts last summer.

He sadly died on 2nd February 2021 at Bedford Hospital after he tested positive for coronavirus while being treated for pneumonia.
