Candle causes living room fire in Milton Keynes home

Firefighters were called to a living room fire in Milton Keynes.

On Saturday 5th March, fire crews were called to a house in Hodge Lea after receiving a call of a fire in a living room.

The fire started after a lit candle had fallen over in the ground floor living room of the two-storey home.

Two appliances and firefighters from West Ashland attended the fire and used a hose reel and positive pressure ventilation fan to help clear the smoke.

When firefighters arrived, one woman was outside of the home, suffering the effects of breathing in the smoke.

Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue say two accidental fires are started by candles everyday. They say: "It is important to remember that a candle is not just a decorative feature. Left unattended, an open flame scenting your home could leave a trail of devastation."
