Bucks Fire Service given 'Public Service Hero' award for their support for local people during 2020

Bucks Fire and Rescue Service have been given the 'Public Service Hero' award at the Buckinghamshire Council 'Proud of Bucks' Awards for 2020.

The team were nominated for the support they gave to local communities across the county this year and that they continue to provide.

Bucks Fire and Rescue have helped with deliveries to the vulnerable and shielding, delivered PPE supplies and even driven ambulances to support colleagues in the ambulance service during the weeks at the first peak of the pandemic when all the emergency services were working at full stretch.

They worked with care homes to arrange training sessions on using PPE and safe disposal, all on top of their regular day job, providing an exceptional service to the local community.

Accepting the award, Chief Fire Officer Jason Thelwell QFSM said: "This was a nomination from a member of the public which was voted on by the public, and the fact that people have recognised us is fantastic."

"I am incredibly proud of all the work our staff do in our communities."
