Thames Valley Police Major Crime Unit has launched a murder investigation following the death of a man in Great Linford this morning.

At around 4.05am today, officers were called to St Leger Drive in Great Linford and found a deceased man.

Formal identification of the man has not yet taken place and a post-mortem is due to take place to ascertain the cause of death at a date to be confirmed.

Senior investigating officer, Det Ch Insp Craig Kirby, of Major Crime Unit, said: “We have launched a murder inquiry following the discovery of this deceased man. At this stage we believe this was an isolated incident, there is no danger to the wider public, and arrests have been made in connection with this incident."

“We have a number of scene watches in place in Milton Keynes whilst we continue to investigate."

Supt Yvette Hitch, said: “I am aware that this will be very worrying and shocking for the local community in Great Linford. In light of this we are increasing patrols in the area to provide reassurance to the community, and you may see an increased police presence over the coming days."

Meanwhile, reports from MKFM listeners are saying that the area near the Great Linford Co-Op has been closed since around 6am this morning, with a heavy Police presence in the area since that time.

There have also been several reports of a Police helicopter being heard between 4am and 6am this morning above the Great Linford and Stantonbury area.

Many shops in the area have been unable to open today including the Co-Op, Barnardo's and Enrich Beauty. It also appears that a Police investigation tent has been set up outside the Co-Op entrance.

The Great Linford Co-Op tweeted: "We are unexpectedly closed for the day due to an incident the area. We have been advised we are going to be shut all day. Updates on the store reopening will be communicated once we have the information."
