Police confirm Wolverton tower block fire being treated as arson

    Thames Valley Police have confirmed that the tower block fire in Wolverton overnight is being treated as arson.

    A spokesperson for Police has told MKFM: "This fire is being treated as arson, and we are urging anybody with any information or who witnessed the incident, to call 101, quoting reference number 43190196514."

    Officers were called to the site along with the fire service at 1.22am this morning. Five police officers attended in total.

    MKFM reported earlier that eight fire crews were called to the overnight fire at Wolverton tower block.

    The fire happened at 1.16am this morning in the ground-floor cupboard at The Gables, an 11-storey block of flats on St Georges Way in Wolverton.

    Two appliances and crews from Great Holm, one from Newport Pagnell, one from Bletchley, one from Broughton, one from Buckingham, one from Mereway, one from Woodstock and five officers attended.

    Firefighters used two hose reels, four sets of breathing apparatus, a fan, a ladder and a thermal imaging camera.

    Milton Keynes Council, who own the block, set up a rest centre and helped one resident who needed alternate accommodation overnight.

    Some residents were evacuated from the building until around 6am this morning. No major injuries have been reported.
