Brand new MK Museum exhibition celebrates women and sport in Milton Keynes

The exhibition called ‘Women in Sport’ is at MK Museum’s new gallery until the end of September 2021.

It forms part of a wider three-part exhibition developed by the Museum and funded by Arts Council England and the National Lottery.

Milton Keynes was awarded the European City of Sport title in 2020 and will welcome female footballers and supporters from across Europe next year as it hosts the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022.

Cllr Jane Carr, Cabinet Member responsible for Sport at MK Council said: “We’re delighted to have played a part in launching this new sporting exhibition at MK Museum.

"Despite being a very difficult year, we were so proud to be named a European City of Sport in 2020 and can’t wait to welcome the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 to Milton Keynes.

"This new exhibition is really worth a visit and is the perfect prelude ahead of next summer. It puts the spotlight on women and girls and looks at sporting activity from the grassroots right through to international level.”

The ‘Women in Sport’ exhibition sits alongside the ‘We Are Milton Keynes, Too’ and ‘Wired for Sound’ exhibits inside MK Museum’s new gallery until the end of September 2021.  It’s open Wednesday to Sunday from 10.30am – 4.30pm and late Thursday until 8.30pm.

Bill Griffiths, Director of MK Museum said: “Our city is such an extraordinarily inclusive place and we wanted our three new exhibitions to demonstrate that.  I’d encourage everyone to come down and pay us a visit.”
